Due to the highly exposed aspect of the eastern facade of the existing residence, which enjoys fantastic views over Mackay, the client wanted to create a room that opened up to the view, yet could be closed down to shield from the prevailing weather.

The design allowed for varying degrees of enclosure without compromising the view. The room creates the sense that the occupant is a part of the view, by opening up elements of enclosure to bring the outside in. The roof peels up to draw in more of the sky and the corner of the room slides back.

The other element of the brief was to create a new entry identity and improve the overall ‘look’ of the street elevation.
